Mango Cake at Loving Hutkyu's Review (Jan 11, 2024)

I’m not normally a #dessert person, but it was super exciting to see a proper #vegancake in the display case — they’re not so easy to find around here. I don’t think I’ve eaten any #cake that wasn’t made by my own hand since going vegan. They actually had three different flavors to choose from (four, if you include the cheesecake!) — I felt like a kid in a candy shop, so to speak.

This #mango cake was not terrible, but I felt rather unsatisfied with it. It was pretty sweet (for some, this might be a positive.) #sweettooth The #whippedcream was really good — airy and light, with no aftertaste — but there was so much of it that I started to feel slightly overwhelmed. Maybe I would have been better off sharing it, but I was dining alone that day. The sponge was fluffy but a bit dry, and it definitely evoked boxed yellow cake mix for me. I think the biggest let-down was the lack of mango. I’m a fanatical #mangolover, and I found the mango flavor in the middle cream layer very weak. For $5.95/slice, some real fruit (on top, inside, or beside the slice) would have been very welcome.

I think I got my hopes up too high, sadly. I wouldn’t recommend this cake. I still plan to try the tiramisu cake, though — look for my review sometime in the future!

You’re welcome to come to the New Jersey area to enjoy proper and delicious vegan cake! I’m a bit disheartened to hear that Cali is not up to speed on that one.
