Mapo Tofu Bowl

When I first moved to Vancouver from California I was so dismayed at how few Chinese restaurants were vegan friendly. Either the place was entirely veg or had nothing. Because of this, I struggled to find a mapo tofu I really enjoyed for awhile. It wasn’t until I moved to Victoria and found the now closed Lotus Pond did I find a mapo to write home about.

In comes Aiyaohno Cafe, which I only discovered on a recent work trip back in YVR. They have a vegan mapo tofu bowl complete with housemade dumplings, salad and rice. This is basically the most perfect lunch I could dream up but I don’t have the time to make something like it myself.

Everything is freshly prepared and seasoned perfectly. I did. get some hot sauce on the side because I do like my mapo to be caliente. 🌶️
