Chick'n Less Nuggets by Open Naturekyu's Review (Nov 9, 2023)

So-so. There are many better vegan #nuggets out there, especially in this #fakemeat-friendly day and age. They were pretty cheap (on sale for under $3/bag at Safeway) but otherwise don’t compare favorably with most of their competitors. I cannot recommend microwaving them, at all. It’s too easy to overcook them to a hard, rubbery texture. Even baked in the oven, they’re just alright, nothing spectacular. #lazyvegan

The nuggets are big and thick, with a robust layer of breading. I have to agree with the reviewer who pointed out their slightly off flavor. My other major complaint was texture: I so badly wanted for these to be tender and juicy inside; instead, they were terribly dry, with a peculiar, almost bread-like character. The exterior did crisp up nicely, though.

I’m grateful to Safeway for coming up with store-brand vegan options, but I think they should go back to the drawing board. Put simply, they need work. #dobetter Were I trying to convince an omni friend to make a few painless #meatalternative swaps, I would not present them with this product. #veganisnotscary, true, but some options are more compelling than others.

Ahhhh bummer! I bought some of these on clearance but didn’t try them yet. I’ll make sure I have plenty of sauce or dressing ready when I do!
