This is one of the only bottled dressings that I’ve really enjoyed! We all know that #saladdressing can make or break your salad, and though I’m not terribly picky about most foods, I’m extremely selective when it comes to this one particular condiment. I find most creamy dressings too rich, while oil and vinegar feels boring and austere. I’m not a huge fan of balsamic or red wine vinegars in salads, either, which takes a number of options off the table.
Safeway was offering a free bottle of any Open Nature dressing a while back, and although I didn’t have high hopes for the reasons mentioned above, I decided to try it #forthedollar. This one is listed as vegan online; it also sounded the most like champagne vinaigrette, which is a formulation I enjoy.
This golden emulsion is on the thin side and pours quickly. The first thing I tasted was bold #garlic, followed by tangy #lemon and savory mustard. It wasn’t too sour, which I really appreciated; it paired incredibly with the peppery flavor of arugula/rocket. The Open Nature private label touts its freedom from artificial ingredients, and in general most are recognizable — though I’ll admit to having to look up rowanberries.
This is the sort of dressing that makes me want to eat #salad all the time! Being store brand, it’s very affordable (around $3!) It even comes in glass. There are a few other vegan flavors to try: sesame ginger, Italian, and balsamic (unfortunately the rest contain eggs,) but I think I’ve already found my favorite in this citrusy concoction. Super approved — a guaranteed repurchase when I’m through this bottle!
