Crafty Counter

I bought this novelty product to try in conjunction with a cookout we had earlier in the month. I tried one on its own and used the remainder for deviled eggs and in potato salad.

With the use of the black salt, this product can certainly emulate the taste and sensation of a boiled egg. The “yolk” worked well for a deviled egg mix. I didn’t really care for the texture of the egg white portion. I think this may be partly due to its similarity to its inspiration but also to the fact that it was wet/greasy. I tried to wipe and absorb the moisture on each with a towel but it grossed me out a bit.

I think this is a fun novelty product that can provide some nostalgia. The price is quite high for such little (granted, specialty) product so I imagine most folks would only purchase this on occasion. I’m glad I tried it, but I didn’t enjoy it enough to warrant a repurchase.
