What a great discovery! Vegetarian congee is hard to find. It is always so heartwarming to have a bowl of hot congee.

The presentation is simple & elegant. The green coriander brings a splash of brightness & contrast to the white canvas. Peppery powder dots on the leaves giving its finishing touch before presenting itself. The thinly sliced yellow ginger gives a beautiful flavor. I just love ginger for it depth it brings to every dish. The stewed peanuts came conveniently from a can, yet, their presence brings so much comfort to every bowl of congee. A familiar sight to behold. There is few stripes of orange carrots 🥕 which add a little color to the congee. I couldn’t really decode the dark sauce topping. I could taste mushrooms & the rest are a mystery.

The smoothness & softness of the congee brings me back to the good old days of a bowl of congee at Crystal Jade. Delightfully, this bowl of congee is salted very lightly. Chinese yam is invisible to the eyes but I could taste tiny cubes of them. I wish there was more as this is Chinese Yam Congee - they are meant to be main characters, don’t they?

What is truly lacking in this dish is toasted sesame oil! It would totally elevate the congee!
