Gong Bao Mushroom at Eight Treasures — dafne kiyui's Review (May 15, 2023)

I had this recently as part of another dish https://www.abillion.com/dishes/eight-treasures-kung-bao-monkey-mushroom-with-golden-veg-lemon-duck-10404300 when I recollected that I have indeed had this before! Months ago before #chinesenewyear came around 🧧 and another time at my friend’s place! šŸ” One of the more odd things I love about this #gongbao / #kungpao rendition is that it’s less #spicy than most 🫢 I’ll explain.. šŸ‘‰ Instead of betting on the #mala or even attempting to cater to a market that either can’t take any heat or absolutely depends on it, this one focuses on texture and #umami 🤤 I love #fritters and #monkeyheadmushroom - combining the two is definitely the way to my heart! šŸ«€ Especially if it’s going to pack this much grease! 😜 They stand out by packing more than just the bare essentials. Tonnes of vegetables so evenly coated in their artery clogging sauce! From a sample size of 2 the vegetables this is stir-fried with seem to change ie. the glaring omission of cashews the second time around, but taste-wise you’d really be none-the-wiser. Easily one of my faves in a restaurant with banger after banger 🌭
