Glycine is a sweet-tasting amino acid that plays an important role in collagen synthesis. Pure glycine exists as a colorless and odorless crystalline powder.
A 2018 study by de Paz Lugo and colleagues suggests that a high glycine intake via a dietary supplement (10 g per day) has a positive effect on collagen synthesis. In the absence of a plant-based collagen source, a high-dose glycine supplement, in addition to a generally good nutrient supply, represents the best alternative for increased collagen synthesis according to current knowledge.
