Brand: NATS RAWLINE

Food item: 2 RAWCAKES CHOCOLATE & HAZELNUT PLANT BASED ORGANIC

These square cakes made in Belgium are sold frozen. Each one of the 2 portions weighs about 65 grams.
They are made with relatively few organic ingredients, mainly coconut milk, dates, chocolat, hazelnuts (10%), coconut oil and buckwheat, and no artificial sweeteners, conservation or colouring agents.
There’s no extra added sugar either, apart from the cane sugar that’s part of the chocolate.
The bottomlayer is a sweet crust that’s a mixture of buckwheat, dates and hazelnuts. The top layer is soft, yet firm and creamy, mainly coconut milk and coconut oil plus chocolate.
Still these cakes taste, very, very sweet. Far too sweet to my taste. It feels like an overdose. It really is a treat that should be a treat from time to time, not something you’d have all the time. The fat content is relatively high (34,1 g of fats per 100 g of product, of which 25.4 g saturated!). So is the sugar content (25.4 g per 100 g of product).
Positive points: high quality ingredients, organic, vegan
Negative points: A lot of packaging, of which the inner part is a very sturdy quality of plastic, far too high quality. Feels almost like a sin to throw away. The outer wrap/box is printed cardboard.
Price: I find these regularly at around 5,30 euros up to 6,00 euros, depending on the store. So not exactly cheap. (Purchased around November 5th, 2022)
The same brand has similar cakes with other flavours, red fruits amongst others.
An expensive, but fairly high quality treat to be consumed with moderation.
It’s the kind of treat we’d have to make ouselves at home, if we’d only put the effort. It also is the kind of treat we’d want to reproduce in a much more healthier version.
