I’ve never had SPAM before so I went into this without any expectations and cannot compare the two. They do seem to be similar to pork products in that they are salty and oily. I did not need to add any oil to the pan to fry these, though I did use a non-stick pan. There is not a lot of seasoning but I suppose that is good as you can flavor as you seem fit for the dish. The texture was a little softer than I expected but perhaps I could have crisped them up further. They were savory and tasty.
UPDATE: I’m bumping these up a bit as I’ve had them a few more times and really enjoy them! I was able to crisp them up further and do enjoy the texture. The regular price is a bit high, but I’ve been able to find them on sale at Sprouts frequently and they sometimes appear at Grocery Outlet for a great deal!
