v-dog

my 3 vegan dogs love their vegan kibbles — they have been eaten plant based since 2019. Age 7.5, 10.5, 11 — all male and all terrier mixes from Pasadena Humane Society. They are all in very good health and very happy — especially during meal time!

I alternate between V-dog, WildEarth and Halo vegan kibbles. Aside from the kibbles, I also cook fresh food for them and mix it with their vegan kibbles. About every 2 weeks, I cook a large batch of freshfood then separate them into containers so I can freeze them.

here is the recipe:

2 medium sweet potatoes
1/2 small kabocha pumpkin
cauliflower stalks
broccoli stalks
celery
carrots
green beans or soybeans
red or green cabbage
1 apple
1 cup of cooked beans (any such as kidney, garbonzo, black) dont use canned beans as they contain sodium
1 cup red lentils
1 cup cooked brown rice (or quinoa)
1 block firm tofu
nutritional yeast

chop all veggies to 1” cubes

heat up a large pot with a little bit of coconut oil or saffron oil — or if you don’t want to use oil, heat up some water (a small quantity of coconut oil is good for dogs: anti-inflammatory, helps digestive system, mental acuity & energy and glossy coat)

add sweet potatoes and pumpkin — cook for 10 min medium heat

add carrots, green beans, celery, cauliflower & broccoli
cook for another 5 min

add 6 - 8 cups of water
stir occasionally,

add apples, cabbage, red lentils cooked beans and nutritional yeast

when everything is fully cooked (about 15-20 min) turn off heat and let the pot cool down

once the mixture is cooled, put everything in a food processor or blend with an immersion/stick blender

add cooked brown rice and mashed tofu into the blended mixture

when serving, you can add chia seeds, flaxseed meal, hempseed, blueberries or blackberries. can also add some chopped up spinach or herbs such as parsley, mint or basil
