Organic Banana by Whole Foods Market — aqualing's Review (Jun 20, 2021)

I rarely buy bananas. But I wanted to try @lol1409’s banana recipe (see previous post for a partial “beauty shot”😉), and got two of them the other day✌🏼
I was pleasantly surprised to see that these were #fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance certified🌳 Plus, they’re from the EARTH University, a Costa Rican private and non-profit university that dedicated in science and agricultural education with an emphasis on socio-economic and environmental change🌎.
Since I don’t get bananas often. I try to put them into good use, including the peels🍌
They’re perfectly edible, esp the fully ripen ones, which have lost much of the astringency compared to when they’re still “flawless” with few spot.
No need to chew on them directly though. You can chop the whole banana into your smoothies if that’s your thing. For me, I don’t like my smoothies too sweet. So banana bacon is my once-in-a-blue-moon treat 🥓 Just marinate them with your favorite sauce and pan fry both sides until crispy💥
They don’t taste like bacon, which is a bonus for me😋. But if you liked bacon and this sounds like a huge letdown, there’s (at least) one more trick you can try: banana peel tea🍵 Just add water, boil, simmer and strain.
“Now, why in the world would anyone want to drink that?!”, you ask. Well, banana peels contain a good amount of #magnesium, potassium, 5-HTP, tryptophan and other nutrients that help with serotonin metabolism, all beneficial for mood stabilization and relaxation😴
I’ve never tested the effectiveness of this drink since I rarely have problem falling asleep and rarely have banana around🤦🏻‍♀️. But if you’ve tried it or are interested in doing so, do let me know how it turns out🙋🏻‍♀️ Super curious abt it.

Super interesting ideas for the peels! 🍌 I'm going to try them and let you know how it turns out. Thanks! Tea and "bacon" in particular sound fun. I wonder if I could make a sweet(ish) version of the bacon.

And I didn't get a notification for this tag for whatever reason 🤨 I'd never have known if I hadn't scrolled down.
