Portabella Melt Sandwich at R. Thomas' Deluxe Grill — lisaguerra's Review (Jun 5, 2021)

R. Thomas Deluxe Grill is a quirky but classic dining spot in Midtown, an insanely-colorful oasis that serves up plenty of healthy options for all types of eaters. I am glad they survived the pandemic and will forgive them for the lack of clarity on their menu regarding what is vegan and what isn't. I had to interrogate and then cross-examine the waiter. Repeatedly. But I think he might have been flirting with me a little, having fun.

The cheese on this Portabella Melt was substituted with the cashew cheese from their appetizer menu, and the brioche bun was swapped out for sourdough. I needed a beer after the drama of ordering but I enjoyed my sandwich and also two Sweetwater 420s. The side dish is their Garlicky Green Beans and they were delicious.

How quirky is R Thomas? Well, they close at 5 AM. Yes, that is when they close. And they also have tropical birds on display outside. Don't worry, I gave them plenty of grief about that. They claim the birds are happy. Somehow I doubt that but I sure hope so.
