When it’s been a long day at work.. and you arrive home to grumpy, hungry kids... and load shedding is about to start (for the non-South Africans, that’s when the electricity is switched off for 2.5 hours for an entire suburb)... and THEN your dinner is delivered with surprise chocolate cake 😍🥳😃🤩👏👏👏

All in the Kitchen had made a small mix-up with our order so sent two pieces of cake as an apology.. I mean..?!? How nice is that 🥺❤️

It tasted just as it looks 🍫🍰👌

totoro Ooh wow they were so sweet and nice 😍 and the cake looks amazing! I didn't know about the electricity thing, is it like once in awhile? 2 likesReply
taz Basically South Africa does not have sufficient power supply versus the demand (due to various reasons) so they will announce different ‘stages’ of load-shedding (Eg. We’re now on stage 2 so could be two power cuts in the day, depending on which schedule you’re on) and then they cut the electricity for a set period as a means to avoid a total blackout. It’s a little inconvenient, especially when it’s at a time when you would ordinarily need to cook dinner or put kids to bed. But not so bad if it’s planned with sufficient notice to prepare. It’s not typically all year round, but often in winter when people tend to use more electricity. On the plus side, South Africans get to enjoy more romantic candlelit dinners than most 😂2 likesReply
taz Right now waiting for power to come back on so I can cook dinner. Fortunately our wifi runs on back-up power so no lights, but I can still browse abillion 😜2 likesReply
totoro Oooh wow I had absolutely no idea about any of this, thank you so much for explaining me ❤️ it seems a bit rough 😢 but you're right, if you focus on the silver lining, you enjoy a lot more romantic dinners than anyone 🕯️😂 2 likesReply
taz Yeah it’s not ideal, I’ll admit 😂 that said, SO many South Africans don’t have a roof over their head or food to eat, never mind running water and electricity... whereas I have more ‘silver linings’ than I can count, so I try to keep that in mind when I’m feeling irritated about not getting to cook dinner on time 💖 2 likesReply
totoro That's a wonderful way to put things, and you're absolutely right. As soon as we put things in perspective, we realize how lucky we are, despite the not so pleasant things that may happen 🥰2 likesReply
