Review of Banana Leaf Baked Fish 蕉叶烤鱼 at Red Apple Veggie Café by cody
The 'fish' in this dish was actually tofu slices. The tofu was nice and soft on the inside, but had a slightly crispy skin. These really went well with the sauce, which generously covered and complemented the tofu and tomato slices - natural sweetness from the tomato, a savoury, flavourful and mildly spicy sauce, soaked into the soft tender tofu flesh and crisp skin. The added xiao bai cai at the side helped bring a little balance to the strong tastes of the sauce too. You have your savoury and flavourful mains, your greens, tomatoes and much needed citric acid from the lime given! A satisfying dish to indulge your taste buds and a nutritious treat to your body!
