Review of Curried Beyond™ Beef Pizza at PizzaExpress by r3ddrag0n

This is $26, which is quite expensive. I thought their pizza was very big (judging by other tables) so we only ordered 2 for 4pax. But when it came, it was smaller than the other non-vegan ones haha, not sure if it’s meant to be like that or just our luck. Honestly, I wasn’t impress with this. Saw a lot of good reviews, especially since they are partners with abillionveg, and the fact that it’s pretty pricey, so I had very high expectation for it. When it came, it had a very strong spice smell so I thought it was going to be very good. But, it wasn’t. It was room temperature, not hot at all, which was the first red flag. I mean how can room temperature pizza even taste good unless you’re having a hungover? Secondly, it wasn’t spicy at all. Expected a rich curry flavour. The “beef” was alright, good chewy texture. Mozzarella was quite little so I couldn’t really taste it. The crust is not bad, but frankly can’t tell because all I can taste is just that room temperature. Service was subpar. Everyone was pretty disappointed, especially after a long flight. In my opinion, I don’t think this was worth the price and I doubt I will be coming back. But props to them for having lots of vegan options. #crf

henroosterlover83 Buy thé vegan pizza from Pizza Pizza. It will be much cheaper. X-Large is around $13 on deal. And I doubt regular price is even cheaper than above. They also recently add vegan chorizo and pepperoni, which will be a very fair deal. Reply
henroosterlover83 @henroosterlover83 Sorry, should have made clear in my previous comment. It's $11.99 CAD excluding tax and around $13 CAD including tax. Reply
r3ddrag0n @henroosterlover83 haha thanks! But I’m from Singapore and we unfortunately don’t have that here :/ Reply
henroosterlover83 @r3ddrag0n Oops! I was confused too from your reviews that why it said "singapore". Then I thought maybe you went there on vacation or it's singapore cuisine. I see your uploads match with thé products here pretty much, so I felt that you maybe here. Good to know. Didn't think singapore has so many vegan options!Reply
r3ddrag0n @henroosterlover83 ohh haha I see! I think most of the products can be bought internationally now due to iherb and veganism being on the rise! And yep, Singapore has many vegan & vegetarian options! Maybe abillionveg should get a function to show which country someone is from on their bio! :DReply
angies Oh no that's so unfortunate! I've tried their teriyaki pizza and it was good... It came fast and was very yummy and hot, but that Pizza Express outlet was very quiet when I went, so that could've been why the service was good.Reply
r3ddrag0n @angies that’s what i saw from all the reviews! Maybe because it’s a new-ish outlet? :/ It was somewhat quiet too since it was a weekday, we didn’t even wait Long for our meals (<10mins) so maybe they made it hastily? Reply
henroosterlover83 @r3ddrag0n Oh I see. But they're still not disponible in many countries yet and they barely know what veganism mean. I was surprised that Singapore got them. Good to know. You is right. They should have that option on bio to make things more clear. It's only been around a month that I'm on this app. I don't know much about the fonctions. I did notice though that I have the option to search by country. But I still feel that they mixed somtimes. This app should improve on the search bar. Somtimes I try to look reviews for specific products and it doesn't work that way properly, other than randomly showing up. Reply
r3ddrag0n @henroosterlover83 yep that’s true but in Singapore, vegetarian food had already been widely available since the start because there’s a big part of the population that are Buddhist and a big group of them are vegetarian or try to do so during the 1st and 15th day of the lunar month. So that’s why it’s pretty easy to find vegan food here, just omit the eggs/milk. And also, this app was founded in Singapore so that’s why that’s a decent amount of Singaporeans here, and also they have been helping to promote a vegan lifestyle, while pushing brands to bring in more vegan products/dishes into Singapore. I do agree that this app requires more improving, but also keep in mind, they are a pretty small start-up company so they might lack the manpower and resources. You can email them to give your feedback! They are pretty responsive and interactive, they are always looking on areas to improve so that’s a plus!Reply
henroosterlover83 @r3ddrag0n @r3ddrag0n Interesting! Didn't know about that. I thought Singapore meals were close to Chinese and Korean non-vegan meal. This is however because I didn't meet any1 from there. Most commonly I know South Asian people, US and UK. I know India to be most vegeterian friendly because of Hinduism. Now they're close to veganism because of influence from media. But the distinction I was pointing is that even if the countries maybe vegan, they don't necessarily carry thé vegan options like mock-meat and non-dairy cheese stuff, as US, UK and Canada do. That's why I was surprised. India do carry 1 brand of mock-meat I'm aware of. Reply
henroosterlover83 @r3ddrag0n I didn't know that the app is from Singapore. Great! That's why I was wondering that why I was seeing so much Singapore. I kind of struggled putting it together on previous reply. This is a draw-back of the app. I'm not able to see what I'm typing here if it get longer. Did you encounter the same? I also notice that thé post button is gone if reply is longer.Reply
r3ddrag0n @henroosterlover83 a lot of Chinese foods are natural vegetarian I think or at least in my household as there are always vegetables. There are a good amount of Indians here too so that’s why there’s a good variety of vegetarian food here! Every food court has at least one full vegetarian store! We actually have a lot of mock meat here because of the Chinese vegetarians, mostly are brands from Taiwan, since they have a lot amount of vegetarians and vegans there too! Those mock meat from western countries might be a little pricey or hard to find here tbh, main One we have here is quorn but it’s the vegetarian ones(with eggs). But the Chinese mock meats are often pretty cheap and have more variety, like “mutton”, “fish” and “duck”! And regarding the app surface, yep I have that issue too, even when I’m writing my reviews. You have to slowly pull down your keyboard to see that post button again haha. Reply
henroosterlover83 @r3ddrag0n Actually in général, a lot of food are vegan. It's just that people tend to add meat and dairy to it. That's thé problem. Chips are hash-browns containing dairy for example. Oh ... Singapore seem to be a multi-cultural country. We have Indians here too and therefore Indian restuarants exist. Interesting! I can relate to what you said. Som1 from germain once shared a review of Chinese brand mock duck of cheap price. I didn't find any South Asian brand mock meat here yet, western ones which are pretty expensive. I found thé Canadian brand Yves to be pretty reasonable though in comparison to gardein or beyond meat They're good too usually.Reply
henroosterlover83 @r3ddrag0n I know what you mean. I again had to reply separately. I did that always. What you said also happen for limited space. When it go longer, even the "post" button dissapear completely. Try typing a longer reply than usual to check, although your reply and post caption are usually quite long than other reviews I see generally.Reply
r3ddrag0n @henroosterlover83 that’s true, but also I think western food has more meat products, eating more protein like steak etc. while Asia(or at least Chinese) has more carbs so we can just eat a dish of vegetables and rice. Or even if it’s a big gathering where there are meat dishes, we normally have different dishes, where you share with your friends/family to eat with your plate of rice and not combined like in most western food. Yep, Singapore is a multi-cultural country. We have many races so it’s reflected in our food, there are lots of food choices from different races here. Those chinese mock meat are often way cheaper than western ones, for example I can get a whole “fish” (12inches Long) for only $3+(our currencies are pretty similar). You can try your Asian food store if you have one nearby? Or at least that how the western vegans I follow online discover Chinese mock meat. I’ve never tried or heard of Yves before, have you done a review here? For my reviews, I normally type it on notes first and then copy and paste it. For the reply, currently I don’t have a problem with it right now but I know sometimes I encounter that issue tooReply
henroosterlover83 @r3ddrag0n Yeah, you is right. The western society eat a lot of meat, and steak is too common for them. It wasn't for me even when I wasn't vegan as I grew up on South-Asian cuisine, like some items you can see on my reviews. You also was right to say that carbs are a big part of Asian meal. That has been the situation in Bangladesh. Rice is more than the side-dish. Yeah, it's the same in Canada, that's how you also see me post reviews of various cuisines. I didn't try from all culture but most common Indian food and those western mock-meat stuff. Reply
henroosterlover83 @r3ddrag0n I wish I can succeed finding those Chinese items here too, although now I am on a restricted diet. Maybe have to look for it in Chinese market, but I know of Fu Yao few blocks from our home and I don't think they carry it, would ask though later.
Yes I did like 4 reviews for that brand for 4 of their products, will be uploading another soon. If gardein is there, then likely yves is too, maybe in a different store. I find yves cheaper and more in quantity than gardein.

Reply
henroosterlover83 @r3ddrag0n I also did the same thing now. I type the reply on my gmail draft to copy-paste here, which I did before with IG, the app which also have a word limit issue.
Not always I got a lot to say about my reviews, so I didn't face that there. I only face here as our replies got longer. Now too I had to break it down, the post button totally dissapear for thèse altogether.

r3ddrag0n @henroosterlover83 how about Chinese food, do you guys have Chinese restaurants there? Because they can sell some interesting mock meat that you can try if you can’t find them in grocery stalls. It makes me wonder if in China, do they have dog/cat mock meat 🤭 So were you able to ask the store if they carry some Chinese brand mock meat? We don’t have Yves Nor Gardein here haha. Yep I’m typing this right now on my notes, I couldn’t even see the words I was typing when I tried replying on the app itself :/ they really need to fix thisReply
henroosterlover83 @r3ddrag0n Yes dear, there are many Chinese restuarants here butthey don't sell mock-meat, only thé vegeterian & vegan marked Chinese ones do. I didn't come across yet of those with mock cat or dog meat!😂 I saw mock duck for 1 & it's quite far from home, so are most of those vegan Chinese restuarants. But I'm often doing activisme far away & after thé end of event, they often go to vegan restuarant. If I see any, I'll let you know!👌I think mock dog meat is in China because I saw a post about it selling mock dogs to stop thé Yulin festival. I thought that you had gardein there atleast. I can message both the company to distribute their products further across thé border. Reply
vikas Wow thanks for the review @clarence check it out. Reply
