I first tried Vraja’s Rice with BBQ in July, but I only had the opportunity to take a picture of it on a plate yesterday. As someone who grew up enjoying animal barbecue, it feels nice to have the pleasure of eating barbecue again. It comes with atchara that adds tanginess to the meal and counters the richness of the marinade, aside from visual appeal. The shape of the barbecue alone signifies how this dish isn’t trying to exactly replicate meat, but the bite feel and appearance inside are just as satisfying, if not more. The viand is presented with some sauce dripping, which is visually appetizing but inconvenient if the sauce reached the handle. What I love most is how each piece smoothly leaves the stick and fits in my mouth, making for an effortless eating experience. There is no stress of pulling flesh, scanning for small bones, or dealing with the grease of animal fat. The tenderness of the plant-based protein and the rich barbecue sauce are complemented by a subtle* kick of spiciness, adding a pleasant level of heat that coats the palate without overpowering it. In conclusion, Vraja’s Rice with BBQ promises a delectable and cruelty-free alternative to traditional grilled meat. Whether you're a vegan or simply curious about expanding your culinary horizon, a visit to Vraja is certain to leave you craving for more. *Their menu shows two chili peppers. I say “subtle” as someone who has a somewhat high tolerance for spice; it was just a noticeable kick for me. #veganisnotscary

I finally got to try Vraja Cuisine's Teriyaki Rice Bowl with Mung Bean soup a couple days ago! I’m a sucker for teriyaki in general, and this one did not disappoint. First of all, the service was prompt, and my Teriyaki Rice Bowl arrived only 19 minutes after I ordered. The presentation was eye-catching, with a colorful mix of teriyaki mock meat, cucumber and carrot "noodles" (which are not actually noodles), and a small amount of corn on the side. The mock meat had a light crisp to its exterior that reminded me of croissant and was chewy on the inside, with a faint sesame taste and gentle spice. While it was a bit difficult to penetrate with the fork I used, it was easily cut or pulled apart with a spoon and fork. I’m not food expert; I don’t know if that quality meant it needed improvement because in my head, I just needed chopsticks for this dish rather than the utensils I used for that meal. The viand was tasty, with the sauce being absorbed by the rice, enhancing the overall taste of the dish. The corn on top provided a sweet contrast, nicely providing variety to my palate along with the cucumber and carrot shreds. As someone who loves spicy and saucy dishes, I absolutely adored this. They’re practically making magic with tofu! Overall, I highly recommend the Teriyaki Rice Bowl at Vraja Cuisine. It's a great choice for those seeking a satisfying and flavorful meal in Los Baños, Laguna. The mix of savory, spice, and sweetness is a winning combination that's sure to leave you feeling satisfied.

Teriyaki Rice Bowl with Bean Soup

I recently had the pleasure of trying Vraja’s teriyaki rice bowl with soup, and it did not disappoint. Despite being in a hurry to submit a requirement for class, I decided to order takeout and try this dish out. The packaging came at an additional 15 Philippine peso charge (about 0.30 USD), but I was disappointed that it was in plastic. However, I have made a mental note to ask if they can put the food straight into my lunch box next time to reduce waste. The teriyaki tofu dish is a great option for those who prefer not to eat mock meat. (I personally was happy with this considering how realistic texture of my previous, sisig order that left me feeling almost guilty.) The dish was well-presented, with glazed tofu, Baguio beans, carrots, and mung bean sprouts, making it colorful and visually appealing. The teriyaki tofu was not heavily sauced or too sweet, which is often a concern with teriyaki meals. The flavor was spot on, and this animal-less version of a teriyaki meal is the best teriyaki I’ve had so far. Another thing I appreciate about this rice bowl was that it was both delicious and filling. Even just three quarters of the serving would have been enough to satisfy my hunger, but I couldn't help but devour the entire meal. Additionally, like the other rice meal I've tried from Vraja, this one also came with mung bean soup, which provides an extra source of protein. Overall, Vraja’s teriyaki tofu is definitely worth trying out. The presentation matches what you see on the menu and social media posts, and the flavors are on point. The only downside in this experience is the plastic packaging, but I’m hoping that they will switch to something more eco-friendly in the future.
