I was incredibly surprised to find not one by two vegan options on the menu of this historic country pub, the other being a spinach and mushroom risotto. However on receipt once compared to the smell and size of other meals alongside the pleasure my fellow diners appeared to be finding in their dishes, I found my enthusiasm faltering. This lentil based, mushroom and tomato herby vegan ragu was enjoyable enough, but considering the £11 cost (especially when held against a 10z gammon steak priced at just a pound more) it was a somewhat lacklustre dish. While I wholeheartedly applaud the chef’s and establishment’s efforts to cater for vegans and this is undeniably an excellent start, I feel they do have some room for improvement. Otherwise the pub and restaurant are beautifully presented and the staff serving could not have been friendlier nor more accommodating.
