Guzman y Gomez was founded in Sydney, Australia in 2006 by New Yorkers and childhood best friends Steven Marks and Robert Hazan. Steven, a former hedge fund manager, and Robert, who had a background in fashion wholesale and retail, both missed the authentic fresh flavors of Mexican cuisine that they had grown up with in America. After realizing that there was a genuine gap in the market for fresh, delicious Mexican food, they decided to create their own restaurant named Guzman y Gomez to honor their childhood friends. Steven and Robert had a vision to build a restaurant business that had the speed and convenience of fast food but to re-invent the fast food category by serving high-quality food.

I like that this #burritobowl comes with guacamole. The sautéed vegetables could be more flavourful. It’s somewhat standard #mexicanfood. Food was served very fast. It’s relatively affordable compared to other options. Remember to opt for no cheese to make this vegan. Their dine-in food comes in take out containers too. Even though it’s compostable biopak, the single-use container and cutlery is wasteful. This mall is quite relaxing. The open and pet-friendly concept is refreshing. Plenty of seating areas around the mall.

Lunch at Guzman for their $5 regular burrito/ burrito bowl promo as it’s Cinco De Mayo Day today. Featured here is a regular size burrito bowl with tofu rancheros. Added a couple of free condiments - coriander and onions. Love the flavours in this burrito bowl. Good size and filling too. To veganise it, request for no cheese.

All the flavours and different ingredients, beans, peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and more on top of rice. Also included are guacamole and nachos. I had coriander and jalapeño as toppings. Had it spicy and was not spicy. Portion is filling and makes me thirsty the whole evening after eating. Hmmmm….. Order regular and cost $10.90.

To veganise this dish, opt for the no cheese option. Chose tofu ranchero as the protein here and it was delicious. Love the salsa. Chips still remained crispy even though it was a takeaway. Was a rather filling meal! Would order again!

Although there are a few vegetarian mains, there are actually no vegan options apart from the salad as the rest contain cheese by default. However the staff were quite willing to veganise the dish by removing the cheese. It was a balanced meal and very flavourful due to the medley of tastes and textures, including a variety of vegetables, guacamole, beans and salsa. It was mild rather than spicy as I requested, but delicious nonetheless.

The amount of guacamole they gave was generous, and there’s such a nice mix of ingredients as well, as you can see from the pic. Plus the tortilla chips were a fun addition. This was a filling meal and felt really healthy ~ ($10.70)
