I haven’t had Uthappam since I last visited India and I’ve missed it.
The fermented batter used in uthappam is rich in probiotics, which are beneficial for gut health,
and the healthy carbohydrates from the batter give a steady supply of clean energy.
I really enjoy the sour taste that I think is generated by the fermentation process.
The pizza-like base can take any toppings of your choice. I had onion, tomato and coconut accompanied by sambar and chutney.

The restaurant was very quiet as we were there between main meal times, but I imagine it gets very busy at lunch and pre-show sessions. It’s directly opposite one of the many theatres in the West End of London. 🎭
The decor is simple, warm, wood-panelled walls.
After living in London for so many years I still get a buzz from stepping out of the hubbub into a cosy diner, then looking back at all the action.
Sagar is going on my list of top eateries downtown. Great vegan dishes, reasonably priced.
