I ordered takeaway for dinner. It’s #NasiLemak with ‘Mutton’ #Rendang, ‘Prawn’ #Fritters, Acar, OnlyEg® Fried ‘Egg’ and Coconut Rice.
I only ordered this dish because I was curious about the plant-based egg. It’s made with OnlyEg, a homegrown 🇸🇬 vegan egg brand by Float Foods. They claim their product is suitable for Asian cooking. I had high hopes for it thinking it’ll work well with the Nasi Lemak dish, but I’m disappointed.
I’ve had a similar kind of #veganegg by Just Egg prepared by Green Common, and theirs was moist and fluffy, whereas Daily Green’s OnlyEg was straight-up dense and oily. I hope it’s only this particular outlet that has done it poorly.
As for the rest of the dish, the coconut rice, aka Nasi Lemak, is not it. It’s not Nasi ✨ LEMAK ✨when it lacks the fat, fragrance and flavour of coconut cream. Plus, the rice was dry.
#Acar was great; good balance of sweetness and sourness, plus the veggies in it were still crunchy. I’m not a fan of allium-free sambal, so I’ve no comment on that. The ‘mutton’ rendang was alright; a good amount of grease and flavour helped give life to the dry and sad-looking lemak-free rice.
I’d ask for more ‘prawn’ fritters as it’s pretty good; crispy thin outside and crunchy soft inside as it's made with #konjac.
Would I recommend this dish? Short answer, no. Maybe get just the sides and hope it’s a better prepared #OnlyEg.
