Tasty sweet and slightly crunchy sautéed red onions and purple cabbage from Axum Restaurant! This dish was a little too sweet for me but I still enjoyed it! My cousin loved it! Wow!! I loved 🤍this traditional Ethiopian bread called Injera! Soft, slightly sour and a tad spongy perfect for absorbing all the delicious flavorful sauces from each dish! Made of Teff flour, sour fermented and shaped pancake style. Here at Axum Restaurant the base of the Veggie Combo Platter is a large round Injera bread 🫓topped with all the amazing dishes to sample and enjoy! 2 injera smaller rounds are served with this platter so you start scooping up all the yumminess with those then break off from the one on the platter once you’ve finished with those and to enjoy all the sauce the bottom one has absorbed! I’ve definitely got to try making this bread myself! I love it! If you are ever in the city of Chicago, definitely check this place out! You won’t be sorry. I think with okra you either love it or you don’t. I personally love it and have had it many different ways. Indian styled fried bindi with Chile and spices, in a middle eastern Bamia stew and on this day in a Ethiopian stew with potatoes 🥔 and carrots 🥕! All ways absolutely amazing and delicious!! Mushroom 🍄 Wot was by far my favorite dish from our meal at Axum Ethiopian Restaurant!! Funny how much the sauce reminded me of a Mexican mole sauce. It’s rich, creamy, tangy and perfect for the #welikeitspicy fam! Bite sized pieces of mushrooms 🍄 to easily scoop up with their delicious traditional Injera bread! I asked for the name of the dish as I couldn’t find it listed on the menu. The server which turned out to be the owner, of the restaurant, Yared Teklu gave the dish a name but wouldn’t say why it wasn’t listed on the menu or if it would be a new item 🤷🏽‍♀️? We (my cousin and I) sat outside on this beautiful warm sunny day and enjoyed our delicious meal. Would most definitely recommend this restaurant and this particular veggie dish where you can try a variety of traditional Ethiopian dishes! I’ve had collard greens before and loved how they were cooked but on this day we ate at an Ethiopian restaurant called Axum Restaurant where my cousin and I enjoyed lunch after a busy morning! She loved this Gomon dish of sautéed collards cooked in mild Ethiopian spices, but for me it was very bitter and lacking flavor. Still glad we tried this platter to know which dishes were our favs! Was a delight to try a new cuisine and in a restaurant with traditional Ethiopian furniture! Very friendly Owner, Chef and server. Very accommodating and helpful. This was probably my least favorite lentil dish on this Veggies Platter Combo from Axum Restaurant. Kik Wot an Ethiopian green lentil dish was a little bland but am happy I tried it. I feel it needed a little more seasoning! My cousin and I came here for lunch and the outdoor seating was perfect on a beautiful sunny breezy day. Surrounded with traditional Ethiopian chairs and tables gave a cozy comfy feel. This Ethiopian roasted chickpeas dish called Shiro tasted a bit nutty to me and could have been because they were roasted then sautéed with garlic 🧄 , onions 🧅 and Ethiopian spices! The chef told me there were no nuts in the dish. So so delicious! My cousin didn’t care for this dish much but I enjoyed it! So glad I finally got the chance to try a new cuisine!
