You can take one look and tell this dessert was made with love, a big sloppy homemade chunk of cake displayed by the register. Grab one. Take it with you. I did. The frosting is light and sweet and although the top is sprinkled with raisins, I haven't encountered any in the cake itself, a bonus for me. The cake is light and moist, finishing with a sugary sort of crunchy texture. I tried to hide the rest of it in the fridge for later but I already hear it calling my name.

Soul Vegetarian is actually 100% vegan but has been operating under the name for a long time. It is a divey little spot in Poncey-Highland that has two outdoor tables that put you right in the middle of The Scene on Highland. It was a gorgeous springlike day to sit outside to eat this delicious burger. It is made with "seasoned meat roast" topped with all of the traditional burger toppings plus a "special mushroom and onion sauce". I loved it and found it rivaled any fast food burger I ever ate as a meat-eater over a decade ago. The restaurant proudly claims to be "microwave and deep fryer free" so don't expect to order fries with your burger.

This dish is from the starter selections on the menu and it is an exclusive item described as a "super protein roast baked and served with BBQ sauce". Clearly they are designed to mimic BBQ ribs, very meaty and laced with ground kale. It was way too much for one person but I don't know if I'd share it with anyone who isn't all-in on the vegan lifestyle. It's not trying to be meat, it's pretty hard core on the healthy side of things. I liked it and will try their Kalebone sandwich next time. They appear to be dusted with nooch, too.

AMAZING and filling soul food! The Divine Dinner comes with an entree and two sides. It also comes with cornbread, which they ran out of, but I was fine because this was plenty of food anyway! My entree was tofu cutlets with tartar sauce. The two sides I chose were macaroni and cheese and collard greens. All of it was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. Soul Vegetarian No. 2 is all-vegan and offers a variety of soul food dishes. They even make their own form of protein called Kalebone (not pictured), which is included in several of their dishes.
