Fresh #eggless veggie roll assembled to order with cooked turnip, shredded carrots, lettuce, beansprouts, crunchies and grated peanut all wrapped in a thin paper crepe-like skin. This is a teatime special available only on afternoons. Generous portion too. Thoroughly enjoyed this!

Your run of the mill fries here! Delivered cold and kidnapped it up anyway. Got these fries ala carte since the black pepper burger isn't vegan (patty seems questionable and the buns are outsourced) and couldn't be veganised. Kid lapped it up anyway.

Now this is another beloved snack from my childhood: vegetarian char siew (BBQ meat) bao. This wholemeal version is a healthier take though I can't say I enjoyed the thickness of it much. The filling was okayish decent - would have loved it to be more caramelised!

Accidentally at Lian Xin on THE actual 8/15 day of the Mid-Autumn Festival itself, and this was the special for the occasion. I love me some yam and this classic Chinese dessert dish did not disappoint: decadently smooth yam paste, topped with moreish coconut cream and gingko nuts. Nom! #sweettooth

White cabbage leaves, long beans and taupok simmered in a super light curry base. Would have preferred a more 'lemak' coconut milk base rather than this watery rendition, butt it was still good.

Only regret with this dish? That it wasn't served with 'jook' (congee), since beehoon is the carb of the day at Lian Xin this morning. This simple dish of shiitake mushrooms and beancurd sheets braised in soy sauce was super homely and authentic - swore this is right out from my childhood days.

Back in SG and back at Lian Xin! The fried rice vermicelli is a carb-y staple here at breakfast timings. Paired this with classic curry vegetable gravy. Would have liked the gravy to be less watery and more 'lemak' and thicker. Still good though.

Been a while since I was last at Lian Xin and they've upsized the cups for the premium tea selection. Earthy and just wonderful rose puer tea by local heritage tea merchant Pek Sin Choon in this much bigger cup. Free refills of hot water available here, so it just means less trips for hand-warming refills if you are plugging away on your laptop (I was!). 🍵✋🏻💻

Ah. Love the simplicity of white congee - nearly plain with the light, minimal addition of carrot chunks. Nourishing stuff! Had this at this morning's choose-your-dish breakfast selection alongside the always superb wok hei-filled eggplant stirfry and the less impressive broccoli cauliflower dish.

Was in a mood and chose the tea that sounded the most dramatic: the White Dragon Pearl (no animals were harmed). Local heritage tea merchant Pek Sin Choon supplied these white whole tea leaves that were rolled and scented with jasmine flowers no less than 7 times! I did detect a slight floral tinge.

So full of wok hei, aka smoke aroma! This Dragon's Breath-infused dish belied its deceptively homely and simple-looking appearance. Long beans are also known as string beans or yardlong beans, and this ace execution at Lian Xin didn't need any sidekick veggies to stand on its own.
