I looked up “fluffernutter” before writing this review because I had never heard of this word before. Apparently, it’s a real word. According to Wikipedia, “A fluffernutter is a sandwich made with peanut butter and marshmallow creme usually served on white bread.” This description is pretty accurate, but in the context of a donut.
While in Barrie, Ontario, I stopped in at Mmm Donuts Café & Bakery. I have a weakness for plant-based/vegan donuts. I told the lady behind the counter that I found out about this place through reviews here on abillion. It’s a small shop on just outside a residential neighbourhood.
I think the daily donut selection is limited, but of the variety six-pack of donuts I had purchased, the third one I tried was Fluffernutter. I’m not sure if this donut was considered a “fancy” or “gourmet” doughnut. According to my receipt, I purchased three of each. The total was $25.50 for the six.
Like the others I got, this donut was large, incredibly soft with crumbled cookies on top and absolutely delicious. Peanut butter and marshmallow cream were inside. The Fluffernutter donut must’ve been baked that day because it was so fresh.
Up until now, the only fancy/gourmet vegan/plant-based donuts I’ve had were from Joughnuts Doughnuts in Mississauga. The people behind. Joughnuts have decided to take a little break. Thankfully I found Mmm Donuts to fill the void.
Also available at this place were other baked goods, like butter tarts, chocolate eclairs, scones and muffins. I’ll have to try some of these next time. For me, the main attraction will always be the donuts!
I strongly suggest going to this place and trying their donuts. You will not be disappointed, especially if you like decadent donuts. I can’t wait to try the others!
