This was an interesting take on a lok lak. The meatballs were really nice, I loved the texture and they were very umami in flavour. The sauce was kind of like a sweet and sour sauce, and there wasn’t any of that lime and pepper flavour that is so distinctive of a lok lak, which was just weird. A little lacking again in salt and in flavour. The rice was nice, but unseasoned. And I’m never down for steamed and unseasoned veggies. Come on guys, you can do so much more with broccoli! 12 USD
The better of the mains I tried at Jomno from their #plantbased menu. #mushroom meatballs in a gingery sauce with some turmeric #rice and a sprinkling of veggies. Came out looking nice and tasting good too, nothing that blew my mind but a thoughtfully prepared well rounded vegan dish.
This vegan take on a traditional Khmer dish was really good! The meatballs were made from mushrooms and had a soft and chewy texture that I really liked. The sauce was the true star of this dish, it was the perfect balance of sweet and savoury and salty. This restaurant is beautiful also, and has a whole vegan section of the menu.
