From meeting the fabulous founder of the fest, to chatting up so many incredible vendors & attendees, I had a phenomenal time discovering all of the vegan goodness happening at the South Suburban Vegan Fest in Calumet Park, IL. A highlight: these succulent drumsticks, which were beyond finger lickin’ good. Full stop. No animals need to die in order to enjoy a great meal. (The only reason my ‘to-go’ order survived the car ride home is because I stuffed my face all day.) Yum, I would absolutely seek this restaurant out if I find myself in Madison & highly recommend their drumsticks, which were 3 for $10. 🍗 From The Humane League website: After an average of just 47 days of life, most Broiler chickens endure the horrific process of live-shackle slaughter- a method in which birds are hung upside down, submerged into an electrified bath, slit by the throat, and then immersed in boiling water. Live-shackle slaughter is standard practice and currently fully legal in the US. Over 90% of birds are slaughtered this wav. #santuariovegan #blackownedbusiness
This is just a personal preference, but I didn't care for these. My friends enjoyed them though. We got one of each flavor, teriyaki, ranch and Buffalo. I just found the sauces to be really, really thick and the texture was just a bit weird to me. ( it also might have been the heat, it was almost 90 degrees) they had a stick inside, so they were also a bit hard to eat. The flavor was definitely really good though. #vegandale
