I figured it was time to supplement Omega-3 just because I havenā€™t been eating very

well and I figured it was in my best interest. These are a little different than their other gummies Iā€™ve tried, citrus flavored and theyā€™re bigger, but candy-like nonetheless!

I won these gummies at the #veganisnotscary giveaway. They came just in time, as I

was out of omega-3 supplements. I don't have a problem with taking pills, but if you can take a gummy instead, why not? The texture and flavour are both really nice. Wouldn't know I was taking a supplement if someone gave me one of these gummies to me. Interested in trying out the other two bottles I received. #yummygums #vegansupplements #sweettooth #gummy

EPISODE TWO FROM A BLURRY AND FOGGY MARSHLAND BETWEEN TREATS AND FOOD SUPPLEMENTS
Letā€™s start with

the facts. Conscious doctors, scientists and nutritioners agree today that Omega-3 fatty acids are an essential food item.
šŸ‘‰And the ideal daily intake should be around 800 to 1000 mg. Most omega-3 supplements are non-vegan and made either out of fish šŸŸ oil or krill. Krill are small marine crustaceans šŸ¦, like tiny lobsters or shrimps.
šŸŒ±Vegan omega-3 can be found in relatively cheap natural foods like ground flax seeds or chia seeds. Or it can be extracted from certain algae, for more expensive vegan omega-3 food supplements.
These gummies from Yummy Gums contain some omega-3 from algae oils.
Tastewise, this vegan omega-3 supplement in the shape of a gummy is the least appealing compared to the two other products from Yummy Gums I am reviewing.
It says ā€œlow sugarā€ on the packaging, but in contrast to the other gummies, it is not sugar-free. It has a lemon taste, but as they used sugar ā€“ and of all possible sugars probably the cheapest with one of the worst reputations: glucose syrup ā€“ in this one. After letting the gum melt in your mouth, the sugar results in an unpleasant acid aftertaste, due to your mouth and gum bacteria processing the glucose to acids. The process that slowly ruins your teeth and makes the fortune of your dentist. No better than any mainstream poisoned junk that is sold as ā€œfood treatsā€ without criminal offence.
But honestly, I do not like šŸ‘Ž these treat-like food supplements because I am opposed to this phenomenon when products that should only be consumed with good sense and in full consciousness such as #foodsupplements are marketed, disguised and sold as sweets for adults or even children.šŸ˜
So I repeat: Letā€™s go for more clarity in #food matters. If we combat a food system where the truth about the foodā€™s origin is occulted or hidden or falsified, making it easy to sell meat and dairy issued from systemic cruelty as healthy, beneficial or even joyful, why would we accept the other techniques of confusion, distraction and lies currently used by the food industry?
The recommended daily dose on this package prescribes 2 up to 4 gummies a day. It says: ā€œdepending on your dietary habitsā€. How very unprecise if they do not recommend or specify anything about these habits ā€¦ How is the customer supposed to know if 2 or 4 are appropriate? However, you wonā€™t run a lot of risk of taking in too much DHA (the active omega-3 present in this supplement). Even with 4 gummies a day, you get 250 mg of DHA in per day. That is little.
šŸ‘‰The recommendations are that your daily intake of omega-3 should be around 800 to 1000 mg per day.
Ingredients: The gummies themselves are simply modified starch and a combination of coconut and rapeseed oil. So thank god no gelatine.šŸ‘šŸ‘
The yellow colouring comes from fruit and veggie juices (good!)šŸ‘: carrot and pumpkin juices. So no artificial colourings.šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘
And then, a logic-defying fact: if there is already glucose syrup in the ingredients, why are there #maltitol and #steviolglycosides ( #stevia extract) as an extra? šŸ¤” Stevia is pretty innocent. I reckon the two sweeteners mentioned are part of their standard recipe for the range of gummies and I think they added the glucose to counterbalance the citric acid that accounts for most of the lemon flavour.
Shape/Conditioning: 180 g single use plastic transparent bottle with 45 gummies. Supposing youā€™d have 4 gummies a day, this bottle will only last for 10 days ā€¦ šŸ˜® and you would need 3 bottles a month ...
I first wrote that there is no information about the matter used to make the bottle. But I found a small logo stating the bottle is made of recycled PET. Whether partly or for 100%, that's not clear. But at least better than fully new. Moreover, the cardboard box that contained three of these bottles actively invited to recycle the cardboard, which is good (see picture). Security screw on lid, and thatā€™s a good thing because kids might want to finish the bottle all in one day. Marketed and labelled as vegan.
Price: After a research on the internet, I found this bottle with 45 gummies costs 12,95 ā‚¬. Times three (three bottles a month) is about 39,00 ā‚¬ ā€¦ and youā€™d have only Ā¼ of the ideal daily intake. So this is expensive! So even if the single bottle looks cheap, as they are very lowly dosed, I would not recommend to use these to have a solid daily intake of omega-3. You would need a lot of bottles per month. There are far better supplements on the market, that are a lot more concentrated. So these are very, very overpriced.
These gummies are made in the Netherlands.
IĀ received these gummies as part of a three bottle discovery set as one of the winners in the #veganisnotscary competition. And as this is an intra-EU shipment I did not have to pay any customs duties. Thank youn @abillion .

I find vegan omega vitamins to be difficult (and expensive!) to find so was pleased

when these came in the mail as my #veganisnotscary prize. The citrusy flavour is tasty and my boyfriend went to far as to say they tasted like a treat! These are a nice supplement to have to my diet. #vitamins #omega3
