During a recent outing to Costco, I couldn’t resist

buying this 2 pound (908 grams) bag of Verdania Broccoli Florets for just $6.99. Considering single crowns of broccoli sell for the ridiculously high price of $2.99 or $3.99 apiece, I thought this was a bargain. There are certainly enough florets in this bag to keep me snacking for a while.

During lunch and in the evening, I snack on these florets and hummus. They’re so crisp and fresh (even after a week of sitting in my fridge).

According to the Nutrition Facts on the bag, just 100 grams of the florets provide 10% of your daily requirement of fibre, 9% of potassium, 7% of iron and 6% of calcium. However, according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broccoli, 100 grams of broccoli also provide 107% of your daily required vitamin C and 97% of your daily requirement of vitamin K. I wonder why these benefits are not listed on the bag.

In addition, according to https://www.goodrx.com/well-being/diet-nutrition/healthiest-vegetables, “Some studies suggest that broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables are the best vegetables to protect against cancer. Eating just 3 to 5 servings per week may lower your risk of cancer by 30% to 40%.” Not a bad deal for $6.99!

I’ll be getting this again. 😊
