I do my best to eat frugally (see the preceding $0.89 vegan ham review,) but occasionally I like to treat myself to something nice . . . Something like Van Leeuwen’s #icecream, which goes for about $7 a scoop. I indulged in one decadent #ditchdairy cup on my trip to Manhattan this past summer, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. I couldn’t believe my good fortune when I spotted this brand at Grocery Outlet recently. #groceryoutletfinds Though $3.99 is on the high end for ice cream at GO, it must be a steal anywhere else. I snapped a box up immediately. I haven’t tried the vegan Magnum bars or any other similar product, so I don’t have much to compare them to, but this was a deliciously creamy #vanilla ice cream bar. Although it’s made with #oatmilk, I definitely tasted more than a hint of coconut — so coconut haters, proceed with caution! The bar has a fabulous crackly #teamdarkchocolate shell which, while sweet, adds a hint of bitter complexity. The thickness of the coating was just right, a little on the thicker side. I love that they used real blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries for the swirl; I just wish the fruit flavor could have been a little more pronounced. I think a hint more tartness would have created a nice contrast with the sweetness and resulted an even more enjoyable dessert experience. #berrylover Even so, it was up to the standard I would expect from Van Leeuwen (at least, of their retail-ready products.) I also liked that the bars were of a satisfying size and came four to a box. I thought these bars were spectacular; the only sticking point — aside from price — is that they’re one of many FEP "did not respond” companies that have yet to transparently disclose their cocoa sources. I hope that will change in the future so that I can continue to enjoy their magical frozen desserts.
These are incredibly delicious~ the only reason I don't give them five stars is because I don't think companies should be charging so much for so little. They're branding it super fancy, and I just wish we could have nice affordable ice cream options so people would stop supporting animal abuse. Going to need more than four bars~ thanks! X)
thought these VanLeeuwen Vegan Vanilla Wildberry Swirl Ice Cream Bars would be nice for hot summer days (or really any day) and they’re the perfect mix between light vanilla ice cream + berry / chocolate - my fave part is the dark chocolate coating (obvi) but the whole thing is delicious too ;) 🍦🍓🍫
Oh yes…this made my mouth happy and my heart smile! 😋♥️ The blend of vanilla and berry is just delightful to eat. The chocolate coating is perfectly sweet. #blacktexanvegan
