I was surprised when I found these yellow and green melons in the Hami melon display at Sprouts. I have been eating Hami melons for years and have only seen the yellow netted skin variety and the Honeykiss, which basically looks the same. I felt like a fruity fraud learning that there are over 100 (per one source) or over 200 (per a different source) varieties of what I claimed to be my favorite melon! It turns out that the name is given to varieties originating in the Hami area of Xinjiang but Golden Hami melons tend to be the most commonly found here. I knew the melon originated in this region but didn’t realize it was more of a general categorization for many varieties! It’s a good reminder that one’s own world view and experience only shows a sliver of what one can discover or experience 🌍 This variety was delicious but definitely different than the golden variety. The flavor was much more cantaloupe/musky forward than floral. I do prefer the flavor of the golden variety but I enjoyed this one too. It was super hydrating. $1.49 per pound at Sprouts #melon #melonlover #fruitlover
