The first course of my meal for Wednesday (all the way back in #veganisnotscary Week 4) was stuffed mushrooms, a family favorite. Sadly, my great-aunt’s recipe calls for crab and three different types of dairy; I wanted to replicate the familiar flavor without the senseless cruelty. Enter: OmniFoods plant-based #crablesscakes!
I was floored; I honestly could not believe how tasty these were! When prepared as directed (I don’t have an air fryer, but I tested pan-frying and toaster over, both excellent,) they develop a nice #crispy crust outside while remaining incredibly tender and flaky at the core. They have a mild marine flavor with hints of various spices, most notably pepper. I believe they do indeed taste like crab, but better. #fakemeat Nutrition-wise, they’re not half bad, either: they offer a commendable amount of #protein and, surprisingly, iron. Because they were so ridiculously delicious (and only $1.99 per bag at Grocery Outlet,) I ended up going back and buying every bag I could get my hands on!
I did find it a bit odd how large the packaging was, considering that it was non-resealable and only housed 5 medium-sized medallions. It would be nice if they could reduce the bag size or increase the number of pieces per unit. Otherwise, I have nothing but praise for these mouthwatering and phenomenal cakes that #leavethefishinthesea (and the crustaceans, as well!) #veganseafood
