Fantastic cheese to make a vegan charcuterie board

🇸🇬
🧀 REVIEW 2️⃣1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ 🧀

This cheese 🖤🧀 was pretty thick and concentrated, but not worth the

price of $21 imo. Not very sure what to do with vegan cheese wheels other than eating them by themselves like a snack or melting into pasta sauce. I tried a few things with this. First was crumbling it onto pizza 🍕 which didn't work well as it didn't melt but became more crumbly in the oven and made the pizza pretty salty and dry. Later on I melted it into creamy pasta sauce 🍝 which was nice. It has a unique grey colour when melted with plant milk because of the charcoal 🖤 but not quite black squid ink. I also melted this mixed to stir into the pasta as sauce for baked pasta. I added mozzarella vegan cheese on top so as to make it more legit and cheesy 🧀 I used a quarter of this 🧀 for each meal. I think it's meant to be more thick and concentrated than other vegan cheeses so one can use less at a time, also means I need to melt and make it less concentrated. Else eat it on its own as a snack. 🖤🧀

Yummy cheese! I love in the morning with toast is soo good 😊

Bought this one based on recommendation, it’s very bland and hard cheese. It has almost

no taste but just a salty aftertaste that’s not terrible but not great. Will not buy again, probably won’t finish it either myself.

I bought this cheese wheel several months back as I was anticipating a gathering (that

ended up not occurring), hence the old Miyoko’s branding. I realized I better dig in myself as it expires next month.

Not being cultured in the world of fancy cheeses, I was both intrigued by and intimidated by the ash rind/coating. Though edible and fine tasting, the coating does tend to be a bit messy. I’d be careful with this one on a charcuterie board; you’d want to make sure it’s not touching other items and that your hands and utensils are clear from any ash whilst preparing the rest of the board.

The cheese is very tasty! It has that Miyoko’s signature cultured flavor but it’s not overwhelming. I’m not sure what kind of cheese to compare it to….it just tastes like cheese! The rind has a bit of a smoky flavor, but it is relatively subtle. I actually really enjoy the base flavor; most of the Miyoko’s cheeses I’ve had in the past (and love very much) have strong herb, garlic or potent smoked flavors and this one stands strong without any of those to supplement or boost it.

The texture is a bit crumbly. It is a drier cheese than the more easily spreadable varieties.

This cheese definitely has me feeling fancy. I don’t think the price is unreasonable for the quality, however, it places it in the special occasion only category —unless I’m lucky enough to see it pop up at a discount somewhere. In any case, I’m very glad I tried it, as with Miyoko’s now up for sale its a bit of a question how the company will proceed and if any products will be on the chopping block.
