🍪Often when I am tempted to buy cookies like these, it’s
in a stressful moment, a moment of mental weakness. When I live in the illusion I am doing myself a favour or comforting myself by indulging in them. 🤔Because deep down inside I know I can home-make better versions of these.
Taste/bite: Very, very sweet. Too sweet. Far too sweet. Nice notes of pecan and sweet chocolate. Crispy, dry surface. Once chewing, these cookies tend to stick to your teeth and gum, that unanimously go: 🤯🤯OMG RED ALERT ...
Ingredients: Fair Trade, organic. The base is white wheat flour. Palm Oil Free, which is positive. 👌Sunflower oil is used instead. A lot of raw cane sugar, little salt. About 5 percent of #pecan nuts with traces of #hazelnuts .
Shape/Conditioning: Cardboard box, and within,10 cookies, that are packed in duo’s in a transparent airtight sealed plastic foil. The box is way, way too big for the 10 cookies – they do not even fill up 1/3 of the total box volume and the plastic foil makes this into an example of excess packaging.👎 The brand boasts fair trade merits 👍and puts the fact that’s these cookies are palm oil free 👍clearly forward. However, these cookies are not explicitly sold or marketed as vegan or plant-based.
Price: I paid 3,70 € (February 2023), for a total volume weight of 175 g. You could find them a little bit cheaper elsewhere, as the store where I found them is more expensive than the local average.
The brand Le Moulin Du Pivert is French, proudly, local French and put effort to maximise the use of only plant-based ingredients. Their website says all cookies are egg-free and 2/3 of their offer, such as the “Plaisir” Line, are vegan and even labelled vegan. Other products still have dairy, however.
Also, it is strange that this cookie, even if it is vegan according to the label, does not explicitly showcase a vegan label like other varieties in their offer. They could be more clear and straightforward.
But let’s applaud the efforts made already in a conservative market and the efforts that will follow in the future.👏👏👏
