I grew up an only child but both of my parents are from large families of 7 or 8 children. I’m the youngest of my generation on my paternal side so my grandparents were already in their later 70s when I was born. My grandmother passed when I was small but I was able to spend a lot of time with my grandfather, especially during the summers. He would have a coffee and cookie break every afternoon and I loved to join him. He mostly enjoyed windmill cookies but also liked oatmeal cookies such as these. When I saw these at ALDI, they pulled on my heartstrings. They are vegan but do contain palm oil, a fact I didn’t realize until taking a photo of the ingredients at home. I think I either read the ingredients too quickly or saw the soybean oil and somehow skipped over the palm. ALDI uses RSPO palm oil in their food products, but I understand some may want to avoid entirely. The cookies are quite tasty to me, but it may be partially due to nostalgia. They are thin and the frosting layer is quite thin as well. They are not soft cookies but they’re not crispy either; they are somewhere in between. The cookies are lightly spiced and pretty sweet. They pair perfect with a cup of coffee. ☕️ I most likely won’t repurchase as they contain palm oil and have a lot of wasteful packaging but they are bringing a nice dose of warm memories. $1.84 at ALDI #cookies #vegancookies #oatmealcookies #aldiusa
