These are soooo good! It’s hard to describe the taste, but there’s a part that
reminds me a bit of eggs or chicken. Could be the texture.
This is made from yuba, which “looks just a lot like thinly sliced tofu but proves denser and has more of a bouncy ball quality to it—thanks to the aggregation of soy proteins that form this unique ingredient. To make this food traditionally, the congealed top of simmering soy milk gets plucked off with a large stick and hung to dry. This could happen many times in one vat of the heating soy milk, a byproduct of what later becomes tofu. Hence the translation, tofu skin.”
It seems this was also used to make some of the first imitation meat products, as per the website, thanks to some Chinese Buddhist monks some centuries ago.
It is mildly spicy with some extra heat from the chili flakes. I’m not a fan of very spicy food - this just makes it. And it’s ready to eat from the box. You can enjoy it hot or cold. I like to have it hot, as I feel it blends the flavors together and makes for a nice warm meal.
A serving has 180 calories, 17g carbs, 4.5g fat and a massive amount of protein, at 16g! Pictured is contents of a whole box. So good and so good for you!
Slightly higher than what I’d usually spend, it’s worth buying. Although I especially look for it when it’s on sale.
