My salt tooth (or whatever you’d call the savory equivalent of a sweet tooth) was
yearning for sodium, so it felt like the right time to sample this legume-based jerky. Upon opening the bag, the initial scent was somewhat unpleasant (like peas and iron,) but it seemed to dissipate quickly. As other reviewers have noted, the seasoning is subdued; without the label, I might not be able to discern the flavor, as the chunks weren’t exactly bursting with teriyaki. The main draw of this #soyfree and #glutenfree jerky has to be its texture, which — for better or worse — emulates meat with frightening accuracy. The pieces were rawhide-tough and chewy, with stringy #mockmeat fibers that both delighted and alarmed me. I wasn’t sure I liked it at first — I think I’ve come to prefer softer soy-based jerkies — but it grew on me, and I ended up devouring the entire bag. I would certainly be interested in trying the other flavors next.
