New York has finally banned cosmetics testing on animals, joining a growing list of cities, states, and communities across the United States that have banned the practice. According to The Humane Society, there are at least 42 bans on animal testing for cosmetics in the country. Brazil also has 12 state bans. These laws prevent animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, and rats from undergoing lab tests for cosmetics products and their ingredients.
U.S. states that have banned cosmetics testing according to CNN are Virginia, California, Louisiana, New Jersey, Maine, Hawaii, Nevada, Illinois, Maryland, and New York. Companies have also begun changing their policies with about 375 U.S.-based companies, including major brands such as Walgreens, The Body Shop, Unilever, and H&M, taking a stand against testing any and all cosmetics on animals.
This is a significant step in phasing out cosmetics testing on animals, which raises ethical concerns and is being replaced with more advanced and reliable alternatives. Environmental activists hope that other states will follow the example of these states and enact similar bans in the future. #AnimalTestingBan #CosmeticsTestingBan #CrueltyFree
