Help us build an accessible loft for the flock
Help us build an accessible loft for the flock
Pigeons for Miles Sanctuary and Rescue is a #501c3 nonprofit vegan sanctuary, founded and operated by a disabled LGBT woman named Megan in Upstate NY. In January, we were forced to relocate on an emergency basis due to highly toxic airborne mold, resulting in hospitalization and permanent injuries. Because of this, our entire emergency fund was emptied, as well as being burdened with a considerable amount of financial debt. We are grateful to have been able to make it out and remain together as a flock, but we are now struggling beyond our means.
The temporary loft space, which was only intended for short-term use, is not only too small for the current flock, but it is highly inaccessible to the physically disabled caretaker who has to enter it every 2-3 hours at least to care for the 20 mostly special needs pigeons.
These birds are my entire life, I've rescued and welcomed them from situations that should have taken their lives, but pigeons are survivors, which is why I feel so connected to them. Having been through repeat and unimaginable hardships and trauma myself, these birds give me a purpose and caring for them has become my reason for being.
We need help and support now more than ever before if we hope to be able to continue and thrive as a small sanctuary catering to the special needs of such an overlooked and *unloved" animal. Pigeons deserve respect after everything we've put them through, and I hope to spend the rest of my life giving them everything they deserve.
Please, help me to help them. Thank you.
