2 vegan poached eggs doused in hollandaise sauce served on sourdough with spinach and choice of one topping. These housemade vegan poached eggs are almost legendary in Sydney. I appreciated the effort made by the eatery (a non-vegan eatery no less), and the eggs looked quite cute. The white had quite a soft texture and was filled with semi-runny yolk. However, I personally found the taste a bit of a letdown, as it didn't taste like egg and was virtually tasteless (no black salt and/or nutritional yeast used maybe?). For the topping, I opted for vegan smoked salmon made using carrots, which looked and tasted exactly like carrot to me, unlike vegan carrot salmon I've eaten in Korea that had a smoked seafood aroma... Came with a side of potato wedges. Overall it was quite original and the presentation was interesting, but it was disappointing in my opinion, perhaps because my expectations had been set too high by all the rave reviews proclaiming this to be the best ever vegan eggs benedict and indistinguishable from the real deal. Vegan poached egg cooked in a Middle Eastern spiced tomato stew with roasted capsicum, chickpeas, spinach, and choice of one filling. I opted for tempeh which had quite a strong soybean taste that was slightly unpleasant. Served with slices of sourdough on the side. The soft and runny vegan poached eggs seemed to work better in this dish, because although they lacked any taste on their own, the tomato stew helped to give some flavour. Australian GrunTea spiced mix of turmeric, black pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, star anise, cardamom, cloves, alongside nettle leaves for an anti-inflammatory drink. Brewed with coconut milk for The Lillipad Cafe's vegan rendition. Caffeine-free drink that can be drunk at all times of the day; there is also a caffeinated version with green tea instead of nettle leaves. Smooth and mellow, however I personally found it too mild and bland for my liking especially compared to the usual turmeric and/or chai drinks in Singapore. (8 AUD) #australia #sydneyvegans
