BBQ sounded really nice on a hot day so I chose this Korean BBQ bowl! It has diced Korean bbq vegan bulgogi, pickled carrot, red cabbage slaw, shelled edamame, cucumber, crunchy chickpea puffs, house-made ginger garlic gochujang aioli. It was a bit sweet with a little heat. I loved all the fresh veggies and the sauce brought it all together nicely. The puffed chickpeas provided such a nice texture! I got a mix of brown rice and spinach to bulk it up while getting even more veggies in there. This bowl is $11 which felt like a really good deal. On the way to visit my grandma, I picked up lunch for all of us. Although I have to admit I've only been to a handful of restaurants in Rochester, Old Abe is my favorite, and I'm sure nothing else in the area could beat it. This bowl comes with gong bao chickn, red cabbage slaw, peanuts, cool cucumber, chick peas puffs, and chili peanut aioli. It has a touch of heat to it and I love the nuttiness. There's not much better than a giant, fresh banh mi. Old Abe is definitely my favorite Rochester restaurant and it's wild that I haven't tried their best seller! I got my banh mi with tofu, but you can also get it with mock duck. This was everything I look for in a bahn mi. The veggies are so fresh, there's a ton of cilantro, and it's huge! This was a nice chai. It wasn't too spicy, but it did have the warming flavors I was looking for. It was nice to catch up with family while at Old Abe, but the restaurant was filling up fast, so we had to vacate. I had only ever been to this restaurant in the summer so I could sit outside. If you get to Old Abe before 10:30, you can only choose from three bagel sandwiches and baked goods. I was a bit bummed because I was hoping for a BLT for brunch, but this was still a satisfying meal. The ham is in the style of Spam, which makes sense because Spam originates from Austin, a town just a bit SW of Rochester. This also has mayo and spinach.
