Pesto Both Worlds

Unique Italian and Japanese fusion bowl! Fusilli pasta coated in housemade special basil pesto sauce, made using extra virgin olive oil and herbs for a fragrant and earthy flavour. The pesto sauce tasted lighter and cleaner than conventional pesto sauce. Might have tasted more 'cheesy' with some sunflower seeds or cashews blended together in the sauce! Also served with Japanese natto, French beans, cherry tomatoes, rocket leaves, and pine nuts. The Japanese natto was a pretty interesting topping, but was definitely an acquired taste as it was sticky and very bitter, and also didn't go particularly well with the rest of the ingredients in my opinion. There was an option to switch from natto to baked tofu, avocado, or shiitake mushrooms - though admittedly that would make the dish less unique and much more like usual pesto pasta. Personally I think roasted edamame might have gone better as a protein with the pesto sauce while still retaining an element of the Japanese theme - plus offering a bit of bite / crunch to the dish! On a day when it seemed most stalls with vegan options at Lau Pa Sat were closed for renovation, the Smol stall was thankfully open. While my first choice was "curry in a hurry" they were out and I had to get the 'pesto both worlds' instead. The pesto had a nice zing to it, while they replaced that natto with avocados Definitely going to come here again. $11.9 for this option They have a cardboard #ecotakeout but I fail to understand how that is more sustainable than just regular plates that can be rewashed and reused..

Originally comes with natto instead of mushrooms and tomatoes instead of carrots. Wasn't adventurous enough to try natto and decided to go for mushrooms instead. Pesto flavour was great although a bit salty. Portion was also too big, could be enough for 2, but still a great dish overall. Menu is fully customisable so you'll be able to pick and choose ingredients to your preference!

As a fan of natto, this is gonna be my favourite dish from Smol! I like the savoury pesto sauce and the fusilli pasta. The cherry tomatoes and beans goes really well with the pasta as well. I must say the natto has definitely complete this salad. Totally love it!
