These are a nice original entree. I think they're supposed to resemble crab cakes. They hold together surprisingly well considering they seem to just be patties of ground tofu! The tofu is seasoned with what I'm guessing is old bay for that seafood flavor. Since these are solidly tofu, this dish is very filling! It's priced at $15, which feels more appropriate than how the Beyond Meat burger options are priced. It does get to be a lot of tofu, so this is a great entree to split with someone else so you can try two dishes. The sauces make this dish feel thoughtful and elevated. The three large cakes are served on a smear of avocado aioli and there is a drizzle of whiskey teriyaki over them. The fries came with steak sauce aioli and ketchup. The extra aioli was great to have with the tofu cakes. I'd also recommend upgrading to the fries. Bruh... This is not a banh mi. 😭☠️ We really didn't want to pick this, but the pulled jackfruit options that we wanted to go for were all out and we wanted something more special than just a regular beyond burger. At least that means they must serve a lot of vegan meals I guess! This "banh mi" is a smashed beyond burger topped with carrot, cucumber, pickled jalapeño, red onion, and hoisin. So the only ingredients that should be on banh mi are the cucumber and pickled jalapeño. This tasted fine and was a nice twist on a burger, but if I order a banh mi I'm hoping for something a bit more light and flavorful. Beyond beef is just a very odd, heavy choice for this type of sandwich. They have tofu on the menu, so I would recommend they cut that tofu into thin slabs and marinate it, get some cilantro, pickled their carrot, throw that on a french loaf, and make a lovely tofu banh mi! As a burger, this is a nice option. The veggies provide a nice fresh flavor and a good crunchy texture. I also like that it's a smashed burger. I prefer when Beyond Meat is smashed and is cooked down a bit more. The bun was really nice too! It's cool that it's vegan. It's almost like a brioche. This burger is $18 which just feels rude! After a nice little browse through the bookstores, antique shops, cafés, and bars of Stillwater, @jonok and I decided to try a new restaurant instead of going to our usual spot, Wild Hare. The Tilted Tiki has been on my radar for a few years. They have a whole vegan section on their menu. Farmaste does a few fundraisers here as well. It's a super kitchy tiki restaurant that serves large super sweet cocktails and big portions of food. We love starting a meal with brussels sprouts, so when we saw that this was a vegan starter, we went for it. These sprouts are fried and topped with sweet, onion-y pineapple pico de gallo as well as sweet Thai bourbon sauce. I usually wouldn't go for a savory dish that includes pineapple, but there really is something about pineapple and onion that works so well together. Overall, this is a pretty sweet dish, but I think that isn't too odd for Brussels sprouts since maple is a common flavor to pair with them. #sprouts #brusselssprouts #pineapple #picodegallo #salsa #sweet #appetizer #fried #tomato #onion
