First visit to this all vegan restaurant in business for 42 years in Chicago! Love Love Love the people, and the food! Comforting apple 🍎 pie 🥧 was perfectly cooked and tender with a delicious fresh cinnamon flavor. It was constructed more like an apple crumble- which we all liked. Soul Veg City’s rib tips in jerk barbecue sauce are an all time favorite dish. Recently, they were a selection in their hot bar offerings, which I thoroughly enjoyed (understatement). Along with the rib tips, I ordered another favorite, their sweet & creamy carrot salad. Looking forward to going back soon. With a hot bar & dessert case brimming with delicious, from scratch vegan treasures, as well as a gorgeous & buzzy light filled room to enjoy your meal in, what’s not to love about Soul Veg City? (Well, ok, in my heart of hearts, I wish they’d return to using non-plastic dinnerware & silverware for dine-in orders again, like they used to.) Anyway, I recently indulged in a four piece drumstick order, along with a side of their famous mac-n-cheese. Both dishes nail the flavors you’re dreaming about when you place your order & in their own way, are equally sublime. The OG of Chicago vegan restaurants has a new name and, the space has been refreshed & blown open to reveal itself as Soul Veg City. Luckily, all of the menu items have survived the revamp & today, I had several favorites along with this delicious ginger ale. Yum! With bits of ginger, carbonated water & cane sugar, this was the perfect drink on a hot summer day.

An awesome bean burger with fried onion rings on the sandwich. It was slightly overcooked but didn’t matter much since it’s otherwise delicious. Yes that’s some rye bread. French fries are so fresh too 💚

You guys, the drumstix at Soul Vegetarian are outta this world. Perfect texture, incredible taste and lighter than other plant meats. Just watch out for the wooden stick they put in the center! Enjoy

Update: OSV is now Soul Veg City. Same owners, new name. Can’t wait to see the renovated space and try new menu items. The Gyro comes with sauce and fries. Full disclosure: the house made fries are incredible, which is why they didn't make it from the car into the photo. The gyro is equally great (but I was driving). Yum. Everything from Soul Veg City is the best. Can’t wait to return.

Soul Veg is such a unique place. Pictured is the Sunday brunch choices of pancakes (or you can choose a biscuit!) with vegan sausage patty, tofu scramble, grits, and potatoes. An amazing mix of flavors and textures that you cannot find elsewhere is Chicago, especially the South Side! They also provide you with fresh apple juice prior to meal. YUM #mercyforanimals
