In the mid 1980’s, a dude and his mom came up with an idea that would change college life forever: calzones! Dan (the dude) and Penny (his mom) named their new restaurant D.P. Dough after their initials. The first D.P. Dough opened in 1987. Today, D.P. Dough delivers ooey, gooey, cheesy happiness on and around college campuses throughout the United States. Don’t get us wrong. We love a good slice of pie too. We just don’t sell it. Why? Because calzones are way better. That’s why! D.P. Dough has been making calzone converts out of adventurous ‘Za lovers – both college students and anyone else who is young at heart – since before slap bracelets were cool. D.P. Dough calzones are tasty anytime. But, we are best known for being THE PLACE to go or call when it is crazy late. Who else is gonna deliver you a custom made calzone after the bars close? Go ahead, show your hunger some love!

I don’t know if it’s because of Covid-19 but this place has really cut down on their vegan options. There’s only one vegan calzone option now with vegan sausage and I must say I’m not a fan. The sausage is pretty spicy and otherwise just tastes really weird. Although I definitely do recommend the vegan cheesy bread and cheesy tots that are still on the menu. Those are both very yummy, the vegan cheese they use is delicious!

Super to happy to have vegan Italian food options in the area. The vegan cheese was good as was the overall taste of the calzone. However, when I received the calzone the presentation was off because it was still rather cold in the center. One I reheated it it was pretty good.

This is the vegan eggplant rock calzone. I added mushrooms & asked for the Italian seasoning on top. It comes with daiya cheese (mozzarella & cheddar), eggplant, jalapeños, tater tots, & probably more that I’m forgetting, and marinara on the side for dipping of course. I think this is my favorite calzone on the menu, but they have SO many options! Honestly one of the best & most extensive vegan menus I’ve seen at a non vegan restaurant! Most of the calzones come with lots of vegan meats, but this is one of the few without. I really love the amount of cheese they add & the tater tots!! I also love mushrooms & the Italian seasoning! This is a great go-to meal, is close to the ASU Tempe campus, tastes amazing, and is very filling & satisfying!!

These were extremely disappointing!! A very small portion of tater tots that weren’t even crispy enough covered in crunchy over cooked daiya shreds. This wasn’t filling, didn’t taste good, and definitely not worth the price. I think it could very easily be improved though with more tots, properly melted cheese, and crispier tater tots, definitely lots of potential to improve.

Love these calzones!!! They use daiya cheese & you can get so many different things inside like veggies, vegan sausage & Chickn (beyond meat), vegan pepperoni, tater tots, etc. very impressed by their vegan menu & how good the calzones are!! They’re a bit pricey though, around $10-12 each, which is not too bad because it’s a lot of food but the non-vegan calzones are a few dollars cheaper.
