This was a manioc cake made with mungbeans, coconut milk, pandan. It looked fried to me. It was a good treat but not my cup of tea in terms of desserts. Another amazing dish from An Chay: a Vietnamese schnitzel served with a mango-cabbage salad, crispy tofu, cucumber, cilantro, home made kimchi, pickled daikon-carrots and fresh herbs. The schnitzel had an amazing soft texture while being super crunchy outside. All the elements of the dish were delicious and it was amazing going from one flavor to the other. Definitely a must-try! Finally I’m back to An Chay, one of my favorite spots in Zurich: an almost fully vegan Vietnamese restaurant. This time I tried their famous Baguette: filled with their special pepper-seitan, homemade salsa verde, cucumber homemade soy garlic sauce, pickled daikon-carrots & cilantro. It was super good! Even the bread was top-quality. This is another dish we got at An Chay, this amazing meatless Vietnamese restaurant in Zurich. The restaurant is very informal and offers a wide variety of vegan dishes from Vietnamese cusine. This dish was 32 chf and was one of the most expensive plates from the menu. When this was served the waiter invited us to create with our hands some rolls with the ingredients. The drumsticks that you see in the picture, which seemed super suspicious to us at the beginning (they looked and tasted like the leg of some animal, even the exterior resembled fried chicken skin 😱) were actually made from yam, tapioca and mushrooms. In the platter we also had a homemade scallion ginger sauce (in which we dipped the rolls), fresh herbs, cucumber, vermicelli rice noodles and of course some lettuce leaves to make the rolls. It was an amazing dish and a very tasty one too, but I have to admit the fake drumsticks freaked me out a little bit 😅 Anyway it was a great experience, I’m always happy to come back here ☺️ #veganisnotscary #veganfood #vietnamese #veganvietnamese #meatless #restaurant #zurich

An Chay is a meatless Vietnamese restaurant in Zurich. Most of its dishes are vegan and all the ones I tried so far are delicious. This time I tried the Nam Kho Tieu which is a plate with braised fried tofu, king trumpet mushroom, ovster mushroom, tofu curd and caramelized pepper-soy sauce. It’s served with rice, herbs and broth aside. It was pretty good and not as spicy as I was expecting. The portion was ok but not super generous, I think this is a plate that you could easily order after a starter. This dish is composed of rice, sweet potatoes and tofu mix, crispy oyster mushrooms, crispy tofu, pepper sriram skewers topped with Vietnamese salsa verde, cucumber, kimchi, cilantro and pickled daikon and carrots. It’s a full meal and contains a lot of different flavors. I would suggest this if this is your first time at the restaurant, so you can get an idea of how its cusine is. This is just one of the amazing vegan dishes this Vietnamese restaurant has to offer. The place is informal but has a nice vibe, in summer eating outside is very enjoyable. The service is great and friendly. This plate is stir fried udon noodles with a tangy tomato-lemony 🍅 🍋 sauce, tofu, bean sprouts, fresh herbs and crispy lotus 🪷 roots. To me they tasted amazing and I really loved the tanginess of the whistle mix. The portion, if you can’t tell from the picture, is very generous, so make sure not to over eat: a main and a shared starter will be more than enough for most people. The price for this plate was 25 CHF, which I find reasonable for Zurich’s standards and especially considering the quality of the dish. First of all it’s such a pity that this restaurant hasn’t been reviewed on Abillion yet, it’s an amazing Vietnamese restaurant with a mostly-vegan menu. The atmosphere is very nice, especially in summer when you can eat outside on some colorful little tables. Portions are pretty big and the quality of the dishes is high! I got this starter to share, which is crispy tofu finger with dipping sauce. The crunchiness was perfect and the tofu dipped in the sauce tasted amazing. The price was 12 CHF and I suggest sharing if you want to try this and another dish as well, because as I said the portions are pretty big! The service is also great and super friendly.
