Spicy Mapo Tofu

Generous serving of tender silken tofu, stir-fried with edamame soybeans and finely diced king oyster mushrooms in lieu of minced meat (yay to no mock products)! 🤍🫛🍄‍🟫 The pool of housemade mala paste was aromatic and quite spicy although we opted for slightly spicy level ahaha. 🌶️ Garnished with scallions. This is… sad 🙂 Reminds me of the terrible #mapotofu I had in Kota Kinabalu sad https://www.abillion.com/dishes/ma-po-spicy-tofu-10392373 ⛰️ Once again, it’s barely #spicy and instead of a tonne of #chillioil the #tofu here is served in some weird “red sauce” 😓 It at least has #mince and the inclusion of #edamame was cute but the whole execution honestly could have been better 👎 Honestly, going #msgfree is the restaurant’s call to make but this was flat out #toohealthy 🙅‍♀️ Who orders a dish (supposedly) this decadent for health reasons? 🤨 The staff that waited our table only spoke Mandarin so ordering was a pain 🥖 too 😣 He did lead us towards getting a set meal at S$12.90 when #alacarte the dish is supposedly served for the same size at the same price. The set includes an appetiser and rice 🍚 That was nice, but it took several rounds of him mistakenly telling us that the set dish would be smaller when we wanted the larger portion to share and insisting we got the set instead 😕 Sort of unpleasant honestly considering we just wanted to eat. Just something to keep in mind if you visit here 😬

Part of set and valued at a la carte $13. Very presentable yet leaves much to be desired taste-wise. Rather flat on the #tofu whole and #spice lacking. Clearly missing that certain oomph to uplift bland #soy to another level and each spoonful just serves to bring home that point
