Ever have a meal where you can taste the love that was poured into preparing

the dishes?

My husband and I are in Alicante for the night (long story, but our son’s student visa hasn't arrived and we had the tickets booked anyway) and pulled up our trusty @happycow app.

ÚniKo popped up and the reviews were good so we figured we would try it. I made a reservation and told the person on the phone that we are vegan just to avoid any surprises.

Well, it was me who was surprised. The restaurant had just moved to a new location 2 weeks ago and they're not really feeling ready for guests...no artwork on the walls, no menus printed, nothing in the display cases.

But, the gentleman who owns the restaurant came out and told us that they had prepared our meal and hoped we would like what they had prepared for us.

Our first course was a mezze tray of dips (from top heading clockwise): zucchini with garlic, olive oil, and mint; muhammara; Syrian-style babaghanouj; spinach with garlic, and onions; and lastly, traditional hummus.
