Unfortunately, the Goddess Bowl is a just so-so entree at an otherwise excellent #veganrestaurant. I was prepared for #toohealthy just going off the menu description (“grilled #tofu, #pesto, sautéed kale, brown #rice, tahini, pepitas, pickled red cabbage, [and] microgreens”) but wanted to keep an open mind, as everything I’ve had at Modern Love has been saucy and flavorful to the max. I think the weird thing about this #veganbowl was that it seemed both too greasy and too healthy simultaneously, if such a thing is possible. The highlight for me was the 3-4 planks of grilled tofu, which did have an amazing smoky, charred flavor. #tofulover The pesto slathered overtop also provided savoriness, although it didn’t really penetrate down into the solid, bland, super clumpy mass of brown rice below. There was also a creamy sauce (tahini?) on top of the grains and Brussels sprouts that I didn’t think added much. We gave the bowl a good mix to distribute the contents evenly but just weren’t terribly impressed with the final result. It is #glutenfree. While this #bowl sounds decent on paper, I think the best thing to do at this restaurant is to simply abandon health and order something you know will be delicious, like the renowned mac & shews (honestly, the salads aren’t bad, either.) We just felt there were better ways to spend $17 here.
