Kind of weird that we have to put the tomato on the bread ourselves, but

maybe it’s a good thing because it prevented the bread from getting soggy. Great taste tho and super garlicky!

This is my second visit to Il Fornello restaurant in

Toronto’s Greektown neighbourhood. The neighbourhood was once dominated by Greek restaurants, but now it’s very multicultural. Il Fornello is an Italian restaurant with a very good plant-based menu to complement its ‘regular’ menu. Kudos to the restaurant for taking the initiative to create very good plant-based /vegan dishes. This is so contrary to my observation and experience at many other Italian restaurants that just refuse to evolve.

Create / Offer it and they will come! And come back!

We started our dinner by sharing Bruschetta Pomodoro. It was 4 pieces of grilled Ciabatta bread topped with very generous portions of olive oil, garlic, tomatoes and basil. See the first 2 photos. We added vegan Parmesan cheese to it (see the third photo). It really didn’t need the cheese, but we just thought we’d add to the flavors.

This bruschetta was absolutely delicious. Perhaps a bit garlicky (I’m not a fan of garlic), but not enough to turn me off, especially when it’s being shared with someone. I think garlic is a staple in Italian cooking.

The Bruschetta Pomodoro was reasonably priced at $10.25.

I will definitely return to Il Fornello and support / promote its vegan menu, whether it be this location or any of its other locations.

Our waitress last night was great. She was very helpful in recommending various dishes.
